The Toronto International Film Festival

 DAY 1 - Sunday September 11, 1999

What a long day!! It started at the airport in Toronto with Sheila arriving from Seattle on a red eye flight. She and Trixie headed into the city (taking the scenic route due to Trixie's sense - or lack thereof - of direction.) First things first. Checked into the hotel. Then promptly started calling other hotels trying to switch. No such luck. We were stuck in a hotel under construction with extremely rude staff. Then, it was on to the Film Festival box office to pick up our passes and to start picking out movies to see that still had tickets available. Unfortunately most were "rush only". But we got our tickets for a few. Then it was onto Hard Rock Cafe because we were starving! A brief shopping trip soon followed - then we were on to our first movie,"All the Rage", starring Gary Sinise, Joan Allen, Andre Braugher, James Brolin, David Schwimmer, Jeff Daniels, Robert Forster, Anna Paquin, Giovanni Ribisi and Bokeem Woodbine. Directed by James D. Stern. This was the world premier of the movie as well as being a directorial debut. All the cast were hand to present the film with the exceptions of those on location - Gary Sinise, Joan Allen and Andre Braugher

Sheila and Trixie then ventured on a hunt for cheesecake (girls will be girls). After finally satisfying their cravings, they headed to the Uptown theaters for the "Midnight Madness" showing of "The Wisdom of Crocodiles". (Which became a 1am showing due to delays caused by earlier films) This starred Jude Law, Elina Lowenshon, Timothy Spall, Kerry Fox, Jak Davenport and Colin Salmon. Directed by Po Chih Leong (famous for his Hong Kong films).

Sheila and Trixie arrived back at the hotel and got to sleep at about 4AM - allowing about 5 hours sleep before starting all over again....
