Auto Focus
Directed by: Paul Schrader
Starring: Greg Kinnear, Willem Dafoe, Maria Bello, Marieh Delfino, Kurt Fuller
A little long and drawn out, but the cast played their parts well and story
line was definitely interesting. If you are too young to know the show
Hogan's Heroes, then this might not be all that interesting to you, but even
though I wasn't born when the hit TV series was made, I do recall watching
the reruns in the 70s and even manage to catch them again this decade.
Auto Focus is the story of Bob Crane who was a well know disc jockey, then
became a Hollywood star when he was cast as Hogan in the series which ran for
6 years. Bob is played by Greg Kinnear who was brilliant in his role.
Willem Dafoe was convincing as John Carpenter, the tech head of the era who
led Crane down what many would say was the wrong path in life. Carpenter
introduced Crane to a life of sex and porno tapes. Crane became obsessed with
scoring with as many women as possible. His life as a family man was
shattered when he became a sex addict.
In true Hollywood style, Crane was murdered in his sleep and the killer never
caught, but the movie suggests who did it.
A great look into Hollywood history of the 60s and 70's.
